We are very excited to begin the scholarship season of 2011 to select this year’s young women recipients. This year’s committee is made up of Barbara Goergen, Karen Adair-Murphy, Georgia Hensley, Karen Withers, and Bobbie Ebbers. The girls will have until the first week of April to complete the scholarship application, make their copies, and get them to Deborah Hunt’s office. Each of the committee members will then receive their copies and will have the delight of learning about these fine future leader’s successes and read through their essays describing who they respect most as their hero. The recipients will be chosen based on their scholastic achievement, school and communities activities, and their essay content and writing ability. They will be chosen, notified, and will be recognized at our June 2011 luncheon as well as by their own school’s award ceremony at which the WCRW will be represented.
We would very much like to thank the club for giving us the ability to award three scholarships in the amounts of $1000, $500, and $500. In addition, we will be accepting individual contributions any member would like to make. Please contact Karen Withers at scholarship AT williamsoncountyrepublicanwomen DOT com if you would like to contribute making it possible to award an additional scholarship to a young woman. Thank you again. We are looking forward to introducing this impressive group of young women to you in June.

The 2010 WCRW Scholarship Committee consisting of Karen Withers, Barbara Georgen, Karen Adair-Murphy, and Georgia Hensley met to review and select this year’s award winners from the bank of 16 young girls. We were blown away by the intelligence, character, work ethic, and leadership each of these girls exhibit already in their young lives. It was our pleasure to read through their accomplishments, read the essays they submitted about someone they admired, and hear the references they were given. This was a very difficult choice and we wish we had more funds to award all the girls something toward their college career.
While the decision was hard, we did select 5 girls. They are Evangeline Kozitza from Sycamore Christian School, Allyson Coe and Helen Hardy from Georgetown High School, Diana Powell from Vista Ridge High School, and Katherine Thayer from McNeil High School. These girls were recognized at each of their high school’s scholarship awards ceremonies as well as being honored at our May and June meetings. We are very proud to have taken part in this selection and look forward to hearing great things of these girls in the future.
